NI’s leaving!!!

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Had my 24th birthday that day. We went singing in karaoke, then had pasta in norwood (yummmm…). Wanted to go somewhere else for eg bowling or snooker but a lot of us were quite tired after dinner; no surprise, we ended up playing card game (bridge) - again - in my house. Sigh…that’s truly our weekly routine. Overall, it’s really a great day, forgetting i’m another year older - time flies…

Work was still steady and repetitive, until i was traumatised by a breaking news -NI has resigned and leaving for RAH!!! That is soooo depressing…even though i wasn’t impressed by his work ethics (hm…he’s a bit lazy), he’s truly fun to work with. Being same age as me and having been through the same pharmacy years, he’s the only person that i’m comfortable to share my feelings and thoughts (and gossips) with in my workplace. And most importantly, why is my only young cute hot male colleague leaving me (to be honest, i used to have a crush on him in uni, and i think he’s the most good looking guy in my class)!!!???? My boss BS seemed to be fairly ok with NI’s resignation probably bcoz 1: he’s only a "part-timer" in my department (2 days a week in chemo) 2: BS isn’t impressed by his work ethic as well…Instead, BS is a bit paranoid of losing me, which is flattering ofcoz. He’s worried that i’ll be the next in line to hand him the letter, being affected by NI.

NI is not the only 1 leaving, weeks prior to his resignation, my another lunch date SB resigned to persue her new role in RAH too!!! Well, i wasnt really bothered coz even though she’s my another ex-coursemate, we’r simply "distant workmate (we’r not in the same department) + lunchdate" with not much of social interaction (she’ll do most of the talking while i concentrating on my food).

So that’s the trend: switching to public hospital! Apparently, due to the intention of implementing PBS in public hospitals, more and more vacancies will be available in public hospitals for the next year or so. In my company (being privately owned), we cant really address ourselves as hospital pharmacists coz there’s not much of clinical involvement. We deal with a lot of nursing homes, so 50% of pharmacists are webster pack checkers (imaging sitting in front of 1000’s stacks of webster packs for the whole day). We do have clinical pharmacy department, but as far as i know, those clinical pharmacists are asked to do a lot of ‘fei’ stuff like checking the expiry date of imprest ward stock (which BS once sarcastically told me that even a trained monkey can do it well)…

I’m a bit tempted…although i’m quite happy with my current job. Anyway, BS asked me what do i think about getting another full time pharmacist in my department. I didnt agree at first, coz i thought there isnt enough space (and work) for another full time pharmacist. But BS persuaded me by promising that there are still a lot of things have to be done, and he’s gonna expand the department. Well, he’s the boss, what else i can say? I told him that it’s ok with me to get another full time in, provided that it’s a he, age ranges from 21-30, cute, hot, sexy, or at least as good looking as NI. "For goodness sake!!!" he laughed out loud, and promised to bring me along to the interview, if happens to have any male applicant. Ah, that made my day…

My boss

Went for 1.5 hour lunch today with WL and Fong. The nite before I just got this crazy idea of going for buffet lunch in sky city. WL was very tempted - he’s never been there for buffet b4 - and rung Fong to see if she can pick me up at 1pm, rush to sky city, stuff everything into the stomach as quick as we can, then drop me back to work again. Needless to guess, it’s a yes from Fong! They’r truly my ‘eating buddy’ man!!! Always there for me when i’m craving for gelati, cheese cake from cibo, polo primo from cafe primo, vietnamese food in arndale, blah blah blah, and support my decision whether it’s to eat or not to eat…so touched…hahaha…p/s: WL and Fong got day off today.

Feel kinda guilty coz my lunch break supposed to be half an hour only. Luckily my super cute hunky young boss is sooooo nice that he didn’t even ask the reason why i wanna hav 1.5 hr lunch. ‘Can I please hav 1.5 hr lunch today?’ ‘Why not? As long as you’r not going for job interview somewhere…’ That’s so sweet~~~~…Really luv him. He gives me lots of freedom, appreciation, support, guidance, etc etc…and he’s so fun to work with, always make me laugh, always be calm under stress, always be protective of me…to be honest, if it’s not becoz of him, i’ll probably be waiting for another chance for job hopping…

My boss is someone that i truly look up to. Young (he’s 30), cute (190cm, good built, charming smile), successful (just been promoted to national oncology manager), smart (seems that there’s nothing he cant do or he doesnt know), reliable (always be able to solve the problem when things go wrong), fun (like to joke around at work), popular (everybody luvs him, including me ofcoz), understanding (he’s got to be, imagine working with 7 girls, being the only male in our department…), gentleman (nice to girls but harsh to guys, lol!), and humble (blushing when he gets complement…awww…)…sigh…too bad he’s got a very sweet girl fren already…

In a nutshell, compared to other boss(es) (e.g. ‘hormonal’ middle age lady, 60++ to 70++ old man, young calculative/sensitive female, dull 40++ male, etc), he’s the best boss you can ever have:) Ta!

My name

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Had a chat with my colleagues the other day. They’ve been wondering how should they pronounce my name; ‘Y’ee or ee (with or without the ‘Y’)…to be honest, i can’t tell the difference between those 2, and i don’t freaking care!!

Well, it is funny enough for me to use Yee as my ‘work name’ when all my frens and families know me as Essue or Yee Siew for the past 24 yrs of my life. I use Yee as my work name simply because it’s easier for AngMo to remember and pronounce since they normally omit the middle name when they address ppl.

I started telling my colleagues that actually my full name is Yee Siew or Essue and most of my close ones will call me that name instead of Yee. They started practising to pronounce it but after some 10 minutes, gave up and told me that Yee sounds better…what the?! Sigh…at least now they know not to hang up the phone when someone calls my department and asks for Essue or Yee Siew (or will they??)…
